In his first game in charge of the Black Cats, Martin O’Neil achieved what his now unemployed predecessor could only muster up three times this calendar year (seventeen home games ). A home win. With a rejuvenated atmosphere that had been lacking at the club since the early season derby defeat, the visit of Blackburn, a club with a discontent fan base and low moral, simaltaneous to Sunderland‘s a few weeks back, would surely see the Black Cats pick up only their second home victory of the season. Simon Vuckevic’s …

It seems to me that the minimum requirement from a professional football player is that player actually plays football, yet record breaking Carlos Tevez this week felt that this was not a compulsory part of his £250,000 a-week contract. This compounded the last 15 years of growing player power within the game that could not be seen in any other profession in the world. This is not a complaint against player salaries. Footballers get paid what they are worth. Within the free market if they were not earning their respective clubs …

Sunderland 2 vs. Chelsea 4
Date: 1st February 2011
Chelsea edged a hard fought contest against high flying Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. Early goals from Bardsley and Richardson, weren’t enough for the black cats who lost out to the London club 2-4.
The game started with all of the fire and fury that was so clearly lacking from the Tyne-Wear derby two weeks ago. Sunderland pressed Chelsea high up the pitch, much like they had done earlier in the season when they beat the blues 0-3 at Stamford Bridge. …

This Tuesday night’s game sees one of this season’s premier league over achievers play host to struggling Chelsea. With Sunderland having only recorded one defeat at home all season and only 4 points separating the two teams this could well be a much tighter game than would have been billed at the start of the campaign. Carlo Ancelotti will be looking to get one back over on his Sunderland counterpart, Steve Bruce, after the Black Cats inflicted a humiliating 3-0 defeat on the London based club at Stamford Bridge earlier …

This Saturday sees Sunderland taking on Stoke at the Britannia Stadium. Both teams have wins under their belt as they head into the fourth match of their Barclays Premier League season. Sunderland sits in sixth postion after wins against Bolton and Blackburn. For the Potters they are in a decent ninth postion with one win coming against Burnley. Sunderland striker’s Kenwyne Jones and Darren Bent have been banging in the goals; however Stoke’s new signing Tuncay could well make his debut. This could be a good match and defiantly one …

With only six day’s left until the transfer window closes, it looks highly likely that their will be transfer activity at the Stadium of Light.
Reports are saying that Ipswich Town could well raid Sunderland for at least four players. It has stated that Ipswich could well be making moves for Grant Leadbitter, Daryl Murphy, Nyron Nosworthy and Carlos Edwards. However it is proven that Carlos Edwards and Grant Leadbitter are already in talks with Keane and Ipswich. Daryl Murphy looked all but set to join Ipswich earlier this month; however …

After a brilliant start to the Premiership season for Sunderland, can you put it down to the fact that the Strikers have been on form. Darren Bent and Kenwyne Jones have both bagged two goals each in what proves to be a formidable partnership. Darren Bent said he wanted to move to Sunderland and by the looks of it, it was the right choice. Getting off to a perfect start at your new club is a must, and for Darren Bent it was a perfect start. Bent of course scored the …

Sunderland have pulled the plug on a move for Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch. The Black Cats had agreed a fee believed to be £12m with the south coast club, and Crouch travelled to the Stadium of Light with his agent for talks with Sunderland manager Steve Bruce. However, it emerged today that Crouch would prefer to stay in the south of the country, with London clubs Fulham and Tottenham also interested in the striker.
Crouch, who has scored 16 goals in 34 games for the England national team, was quoted as …

As yet another action packed, tear jerking weekend of football dawns upon us the fight for relegation could well be settled this weekend. My beloved Sunderland AFC have once again crumbled under the pressure of expectation and to the fans dismay find themselves embroiled in yet another heart aching relegation scrap. But for all the pain and anguish the wearside faithful have endured this season, it could well end this Sunday afternoon. The Black Cats host a weakened Everton side which will clearly have one eye on the FA cup …
